ENVIRONMENT & COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Community work in the school provides informal learning and social development environment for the participating students as well as the students of the school. It would strengthen communities by improving their knowledge, skills and confidence. The social development of the students and participating students make an important contribution towards promoting lifelong learning. It serves to encourage social inclusion and play an important role to make an active citizen.
During their stay in community, volunteers will also organize awareness raising activities to help promote the understanding of various environmental and development issues. Volunteers will combine artistic activities, such as dramas, painting, story and poetry writing, as well as games and competitions, with educational information.
This program will help volunteers to develop the village and school profiles, organize meetings with school management, students, and community members, in an effort to identify the further needs of the school and the community. Simply by helping to identify said needs, through data sampling and community mapping, volunteers are positively contributing because subsequent projects can thus be developed and prioritized.
volunteers interested in Buddhism will help teach English to the monks at the monasteries. Volunteers especially who are interested in Buddhist culture and religion may join this program, volunteers will stay near the monastery or in the monastery for a period of two months or more. Volunteers go every day to run English practice classes to the novice monks; children and adults both may participate in the class.
When the volunteers first arrive in Nepal they will enjoy sightseeing or some light trekking for some few days. Upon their return to Kathmandu, they will travel to a community school or schools in rural areas.
